Chocolate (“Death by Chocolate”)
Chocolate, our sweet 24-year-old Quarter Horse, came to Thorberchon Farm with his longtime companion, Colby, in April 2022. While he made it clear that endless lesson work wasn’t exactly his favorite pastime, he was always happiest out on the trails, ears forward, enjoying the adventure. Every summer he patiently soaked up the attention from camp kids, standing quietly while they groomed, braided, and loved on him.
Chocolate had quite an impressive résumé over the years. He taught countless beginners, carried riders safely down wooded trails and along the beach, jumped with confidence, tolerated a little vaulting silliness, and even tried his hoof at mounted shooting. But of all the titles he earned throughout his life, the most meaningful was being Bella’s first horse. That bond is something that can never be replaced.
He had the sweetest soft nickers at feeding time and a quirky personality that made everyone smile. He reminded us that the best horses don’t have to be flashy—they simply have to be kind.
Chocolate truly lived his best life with us, surrounded by friends, fresh air, and people who loved him deeply. We are so grateful that we were part of his journey, and even more grateful that he became part of ours.
Run free, sweet Chocolate. You have earned every green pasture beyond the rainbow bridge, and you will forever have a place in our hearts. 🤎💔
Bentley (“Of Course I’m Cool”)
Bentley was an 8-year-old Pinto Thoroughbred-Percheron cross who joined the Thorberchon Farm family in July 2025. A true gentleman in the barn and under saddle, Bentley was a steady, reliable partner who took wonderful care of his riders. His sweet and expressive personality shone through—especially when he greeted everyone with his chorus of neighs, whinnies, and nickers. Bentley’s calm presence and charming voice made him an instant favorite among students and staff.
Bentley passed away far too soon in August 2025 due to acute laminitis and severe founder, even though our vets and staff fought hard to stop its progression. Though his time at Thorberchon was short, he left an incredible mark on all of us. He will always be remembered with love and gratitude for the joy he brought to everyone who knew him.
Dixie
Dixie was the beloved matriarch of Labrador Retrievers at Thorberchon Farm who passed in July of 2024. She spent her days wandering the fields or relaxing in the shade by the barn, always ready for some affection from eager students. A proud mother to Danny and Diamond and a doting grandmother to Buddy, she brought joy to everyone around her. Dixie absolutely adored competing in Dock Dogs at the Hopkinton Fair, where she proudly claimed first place in her division in 2023.
Known for her playful kick on the leg to get attention, her spirited presence is deeply missed every day.
Polo
Polo was with Thorberchon Farm for 5 years before he passed in June 2022. An appendix quarter horse, standing at roughly 16 hands, Polo was perfect for children who have never ridden before, those who are learning to canter on their own, and everyone in-between. Known for being slow and steady, Polo was very sweet and affectionate with the children (and their parents!) and perfect for gaining confidence in the saddle. Polo was laid to rest in the field next to Winston. We are sure they are face fighting in heaven.
Winston
Winston, a Percheron draft horse, was brought to Thorberchon Farm as an untrained 3 1/2 year old. We spent fifteen months growing a bond with him and teaching him everything a horse would ever need to know. He was a part of our summer/winter camps, some lessons, and even some shows. Most notably, Winston & Ayla took home the Championship in their walk trot division at the Fall Fuzzies Show in October 2021.
Regrettably, in April of 2022, Winston passed away suddenly from an unknown cause. He was laid to rest in a quiet corner of his field, where everyone who loves and misses him can visit.
Bubba
Bubba was the old man of the barn; at fifteen years old, the chocolate lab had a good, long life. He was the father of both Dixie and Teddy, and a grandfather to Danny and Diamond. When his age finally caught up with him in February of 2022, he was put to sleep in the same place he’d called home for his entire life. Loved and missed, but not forgotten.
Teddy
A familiar part of the greeting committee (after all, every place needs a proper canine greeting committee), Teddy was known as a kind of ‘weird uncle’ at the barn. His quirks and uniqueness made him well known at Thorberchon Farm. On September 3rd, 2022, Teddy joined his father, Bubba, after an unforeseen medical emergency. Loosing his characteristic way of ‘talking’ whenever he was around left a strange silence behind, but his niece and nephew are more than happy to fill it as best they can with their endless puppy enthusiasm.
