Joe (“Cup ‘o Joe”)

Meet Joseph, a 28-year-old Quarter Horse standing at 15.2 hands tall. While he may not be the largest horse around, his gentle temperament and impressive skills more than compensate for his size. With a calm and steady disposition, Joe is an ideal partner for riders of all ages and levels, from 2-year-olds taking their first steps in the saddle to 12-year-olds mastering the canter. As a rescue horse, Joe has found a fulfilling role in his golden years, delighting in introducing children to the joys of horseback riding while enjoying a comfortable transition into retirement.

Max (“Maximus Prime”)

Max, a 23-year-old Belgian draft horse towering at 18.2 hands, embodies the term “gentle giant.” Despite his imposing size, Max is incredibly affectionate and adored by children of all ages. While he welcomes riders of various skill levels, Max primarily serves as a mount for slightly older and more advanced children, as well as adults with diverse riding experiences, allowing other horses like Joe and Colby to guide the younger learners. As a rescue horse, Max is approaching his fifth anniversary at Thorberchon Farm, where he continues to play a vital role as a beloved lesson horse.

Sam (“Sampson”)

Meet Sampson, a 22-year-old Percheron draft horse with a wide range of talents, excelling in disciplines from jumping to driving. Standing tall at 18.2 hands, Sampson is another gentle giant on the farm. His versatility makes him an ideal mount for adults at any stage of riding expertise and older, more advanced children who are confident in their horsemanship skills.

Colby (“Lightning McQueen”)

Colby, an 18-year-old chestnut Quarter Horse standing at 14 hands, arrived at Thorberchon Farm alongside his companion Chocolate in April 2022. Since then, he has become an integral part of our lesson program. With his versatile nature, Colby is suitable for riders of all ages and abilities. Additionally, he thoroughly enjoys venturing out on the trails, adding an extra dimension to his repertoire.

Chocolate

Chocolate, a 22-year-old Quarter Horse, arrived at Thorberchon Farm alongside his companion Colby in April 2022. While he’s not particularly keen on lesson work, Chocolate’s true joy lies in exploring the trails and spending quality time with his lessee, Bella. He also shines during summer camp, eagerly participating as students groom and braid him with enthusiasm.

Tater Tot

Tater Tot became a part of Thorberchon Farm in May 2022, bringing with him an irresistible charm. At 17 years old, this blue roan miniature horse may be small in stature, but his personality is larger than life! Tater adores attention and treats, and his favorite pastimes include being groomed, showcasing adorable tricks, and imparting riding lessons to our youngest equestrians. But don’t be fooled by his cuteness! Tater Tot is a smart and crafty little pony who bides his time for the perfect opportunity to dash off and enjoy a taste of freedom.

Charlie (“Charlie Brown”)

Charlie, a 23-year-old pony, became a valued member of the Thorberchon Farm crew in September 2022. With his graceful movements and spirited personality, Charlie captures attention wherever he goes. Renowned for his bravery, he relishes beach and trail rides, showcasing his adventurous spirit. Additionally, Charlie takes on the role of the farm’s unofficial “social coordinator,” keeping track of his fellow equine companions with frequent whinnies throughout the day.

Bo (“Rambo”)

Bo, a 9-year-old Belgian, came from the SUNY Morrisville College driving team, where he competed extensively across the country in single hitch, as well as 4 and 6 horse driving teams, showcasing his impressive skills at shows and fairs. Since joining Thorberchon Farm in November 2023, Bo has made remarkable strides in adapting to riding under saddle. Beyond his newfound equestrian talents, Bo has revealed his incredibly friendly and affectionate personality, akin to that of a lovable puppy.

Duncan

Duncan, a 9-year-old Belgian, also came to us from SUNY Morrisville College. Originally part of the driving team, Duncan didn’t quite take to being hitched up. Since his arrival in March 2024, Duncan has discovered his true joy lies in being ridden under saddle here at Thorberchon Farm. As our tallest horse and another true gentle giant, he plays a key role in our lesson program and is very loved by his lessee, the Korkin family, most especially little Julia.

Captain

Captain, a 15-year-old Morgan Haflinger cross, joined the Thorberchon Farm family in March 2024. Known for his gentle nature and affection for children, Captain has quickly becoming a staple in our lesson program. He’s also cherished by his dedicated lessee, Camille.

Our Boarders

Tac (“Firetack”)

Tac, a 17-year-old chestnut Thoroughbred, belongs to Kellie Femino and has been a cherished resident of Thorberchon Farm since October 2021. A descendant of Secretariat, Tac boasts an impressive racing background, including a notable victory at Churchill Downs during his brief career on the track. Now, Tac relishes the slower pace of life at the farm, enjoying his time working in the ring, occasional trail rides, and playful outings in the field with his companions. While Tac isn’t a regular member of the lesson program, he delights in making guest appearances at camps from time to time.

Lilibet

(“Laurel Highland Lilibet III”)

Meet Lilibet, the adorable 5-year-old Fell pony directly descended from the royal herd in England! Her charming personality and cute face are a testament to her fantastic bloodlines. Though Lilibet isn’t a full-time resident at Thorberchon Farm, her owner, Shannon, boards her with us for training, and she’s adored by everyone just the same.

Tom (“Tom’s Affaire”)

Tom, a 6-year-old registered Quarter Horse owned by Cassidy Madigan, is a striking grullo (not a buckskin!) known for his playful and goofy demeanor. While he adores ring work, Tom’s true passion lies in racing. Though he may not participate in lessons or summer camps, he thrives on receiving attention and affection from everyone at the farm.
