Raised in the presence of horses, she has embraced the equestrian lifestyle since her earliest days, becoming a seasoned rider across various disciplines. Her journey has led her through the intricate movements of dressage to the adrenaline-fueled world of eventing, mastering each with dedication and finesse. Notably, Dede honed her skills under the tutelage of the esteemed American equestrian, Denny Emerson, a partnership that spanned four transformative years.

Beyond her personal achievements, Dede’s passion for equines extends to mentorship and coaching. For over three decades, she has shared her expertise, imparting the joys and rewards of horseback riding to countless individuals. As a 4-H leader and the esteemed coach of the Bow Equestrian Team, Dede has shaped the aspirations of aspiring riders, instilling in them not only the technical prowess but also the values of perseverance and compassion.

With unwavering dedication, Dede has been an integral part of Thorberchon Farm for 37 years. Alongside her family, she considers the farm her true home, pouring her energy into its daily operations. Tirelessly, she tends to the needs of her beloved animals, ensuring their well-being with each passing day. For Dede, Thorberchon Farm isn’t merely a place of work—it’s a sanctuary where her lifelong passion for horses finds its fullest expression.

Steve Batchelder

Barn Boy

Steve, Dede’s husband, is the backbone of Thorberchon Farm’s operations. With unwavering dedication, he lends his strength and expertise to a myriad of tasks, from the arduous chore of gathering hay to the meticulous maintenance of the riding ring. Whether it’s constructing shelters for their equine companions or ensuring the security of the premises, Steve’s hands-on approach is indispensable to the smooth functioning of the farm.

While Steve’s affinity lies with his motorcycle rather than the back of a horse, his affection for the animals is unmistakable. Despite his preference for two wheels over four hooves, his commitment to the well-being of the farm’s residents rivals that of any seasoned equestrian. More than a supportive spouse, Steve is a pillar of strength for Dede and their shared enterprise, offering his assistance and encouragement in every conceivable way.

In the quiet moments between tasks, Steve’s presence is felt throughout Thorberchon Farm—a silent guardian ensuring the safety and security of its inhabitants. Kellie Femino

Barn Manager & Assistant Instructor

Kellie’s journey into the world of equestrianism began in her childhood, where she discovered her passion for riding and became involved in 4-H activities. After a hiatus, she rediscovered her love for horses when she stumbled upon Thorberchon Farm in 2020—and since then, she has become an indispensable part of its fabric.

When Kellie isn’t showering her beloved horse, Tac, with affection, she can be found immersing herself in various facets of farm life. Whether lending a hand in the barn, embarking on scouting expeditions with Dede in search of potential equine additions, or assisting with lessons, Kellie’s dedication knows no bounds. Her versatile skill set extends beyond the stables, as she plays a pivotal role in managing the farm’s website, overseeing the farm store, and meticulously handling all show-related paperwork and logistics, including trucking for horse shows.

Moreover, Kellie’s commitment to nurturing young equestrian talent shines through in her role as the assistant coach for the Goffstown High School Equestrian Team. Here, she imparts her wisdom and enthusiasm to the next generation of riders, instilling in them the same love and reverence for horses that has defined her own journey.

In every aspect of Thorberchon Farm’s operations, Kellie’s passion, diligence, and expertise leave an indelible mark, enriching the lives of both humans and equines alike.

Ayla

Head Counselor & Assistant Instructor

Ayla, a dedicated student at UNH, has woven herself seamlessly into the fabric of Thorberchon Farm, drawing upon years of equestrian experience and a boundless enthusiasm for all things equine. Despite the demands of university life, Ayla devotes herself wholeheartedly to the farm, offering her assistance whenever possible.

With a wealth of knowledge garnered from her years of lessons at Thorberchon, Ayla assumes the role of head camp counselor with grace. Her nurturing spirit and love for teaching shine through as she guides campers through their equestrian endeavors, fostering a sense of camaraderie and growth among the young riders.

Beyond her responsibilities as camp counselor, Ayla eagerly lends her hand to barn chores, ensuring the smooth operation of daily activities. Ever ready to support Dede in her teaching endeavors, Ayla readily steps in to assist with lessons whenever the need arises, her dedication to the farm and its community unwavering.

Bella, a student at Bow High School and Auggie’s owner, is a standout member of the Bow Equestrian team, where she consistently earns accolades. Her commitment to the equestrian world goes beyond the competition; she plays an essential role in the daily management of the barn. With an unwavering work ethic, Bella tackles barn chores with enthusiasm and ensures that the horses are perfectly prepared for their lessons, exemplifying responsibility and care.

But Bella’s contributions extend further. As a camp counselor, she shares her deep knowledge and passion for horses with younger riders, creating a nurturing and inspiring environment for them to grow and excel.

Lily

Camp Counselor & Barn Crew

Lily, a student at Goffstown High School, embodies a deep passion for horses, particularly the remarkable Off-the-Track Thoroughbreds (OTTBs), and a fondness for iced coffee that’s as refreshing as her love for equines. At Thorberchon Farm, she has found a haven for her equestrian pursuits and a community that shares her ardor.

Currently leasing Lilibet, Lily’s bond with her equine companion is palpable, a testament to her innate understanding of horses and her unwavering affection for these majestic animals. Beyond her lease, Lily extends her compassion to Saanti, a rescue mare at Live and Let Live Farm, whom she sponsors with unwavering support.

With her wealth of experience in the saddle, Lily is always eager to ride any horse at the farm, showcasing her versatility and skill as an equestrian. Her willingness to embrace every equine partner speaks volumes about her dedication to horsemanship and her genuine love for these noble creatures.

During camp weeks, Lily assumes the role of a vigilant guardian, ensuring the safety and enjoyment of campers during pool time. Her watchful eye and warm demeanor create an atmosphere of fun and security, allowing everyone to make the most of their time at the farm.

Hailey, a student at Bow High School, finds her passion for horses ignited through her partnership with Sampson on the school’s equestrian team and at local shows. In the arena, their connection is palpable, as they navigate courses with finesse and grace, consistently showcasing their dedication and skill.

Beyond the confines of the arena, Hailey’s love for horses extends to her role as a summer camp counselor, where she shares her infectious enthusiasm and knowledge with eager campers. With a natural gift for teaching and a warm, approachable demeanor, she creates an environment where learning and laughter go hand in hand, leaving a lasting impression on all who encounter her.

When she’s not in the saddle, Hailey happily immerses herself in barn chores, infusing each task with her signature brand of humor and levity. Her lighthearted approach brings joy to the daily routines of caring for the horses, creating a sense of camaraderie among her fellow equestrians.

Enthralled by the camaraderie and joy that permeated the farm, Dominic quickly became an integral part of the community, extending his involvement beyond the saddle.

As a camp counselor, Dominic’s exuberance and zest for life shine through as he immerses himself in every aspect of camp life. Whether he’s keeping a watchful eye on the pool, leading adventures up at the pond, or joining campers in exhilarating sled rides, Dominic’s boundless energy and enthusiasm create unforgettable memories for all who cross his path.

Lucas

Lucas, a dedicated student from Goffstown, embarked on his equestrian journey at Thorberchon Farm in 2020, where he found his passion ignited atop Joe. Drawn to the vibrant atmosphere and sense of community at the farm, Lucas quickly became an integral part of its fabric, eager to contribute in any way he could.

When he’s not in the saddle, Lucas can often be found lending a hand with barn chores. Whether it’s mucking out stalls, tending to the mule, or lending his expertise to fix things around the farm, Lucas’s willingness to roll up his sleeves and get the job done doesn’t go unnoticed.

In addition to his work around the farm, Lucas showcases his riding skills as he partners with Firetack for the Goffstown Equestrian Team. With determination and finesse, he navigates courses with precision and grace, embodying the spirit of dedication and teamwork.

Maddie

Introducing Maddie! Affectionately known as “Little Maddie” around the farm, she is a devoted student from Goffstown, who holds a special place in the hearts of all at the barn. Despite her petite size, Maddie’s dedication and passion for her work know no bounds. Tirelessly, she lends her expertise to every aspect of horse care, seamlessly maneuvering through tasks with precision and care. Beyond her invaluable contributions, Maddie is a true equestrian talent, captivating onlookers with her exceptional riding skills that seem to effortlessly blend with her innate connection to the animals.
